AET President, Dave Rettner, Awarded NRRA’s Distinguished Service Award

At the 2018 National Road Research Alliance (NRRA)’s Pavement Conference held on May 24th, 2018, AET President and Principal Engineer, David L. Rettner, P.E., received the alliance’s distinguished service award. The Gerald J. Rohrbach Distinguished Service Award is “dedicated in honor of Gerald J. (Gerry) Rohrbach. Gerald was an integral part of MnDOT for more than 35 years. Recipients of the award have demonstrated significant contributions to pavement engineering over the course of their career. The recipients of this award, like Mr. Rohrbach, have had a significant impact on the pavement engineering professional as a whole.”

Rettner started his career at MnDOT as an assistant pavement engineer, eventually becoming the chief geotechnical engineer. Throughout his career, Rettner has pioneered many pavement-related initiatives. He was instrumental in building, advocating for, and implementing MnROAD, a pavement test track which provides detailed pavement performance data and has received national recognition.

In 2004, Rettner joined AET and established the AET Pavement Department to serve the industry throughout the United States. His team has developed into a state-of-the-art bituminous laboratory providing advanced bituminous testing, pavement design, construction quality testing, ground penetrating radar services, and condition surveys.

He continues to advocate for constant improvement in the construction industry, share his knowledge at national conferences, and mentor staff to help others grow in their career.
