Non-Destructive Testing: A Highlight

AET has over twenty years of experience in nondestructive testing and performs inspections to standards and codes such as AWS, ASME, API, ASTM, UBC and military standards. Code required inspection or customized applications are available upon request. We offer a full range of nondestructive testing (NDT) modalities that include:

113_1365.JPGRadiography (RT) to inspect materials for hidden flaws and uses radiation which can be x-ray machines or isotopes (IR192 or CO60) to penetrate the test object and record images on film. This test method is used to examine welds, castings, plastic components and concrete. Radiography requires access to both sides of the test object and can be performed in house or at field locations which include on-site film processing and interpretation.

Penetrant (PT) is a method of examining components for the detection of surface defects, such as cracks. In penetrant inspection a dye is used to penetrate defects along with a developer to make the defect indications more visible. Penetrant examination can be performed using visible or fluorescent dyes and can be used on most non-porous materials.

Magnetic Particle (MT) is a test method used to detect defects at or near the surface of ferromagnetic materials. Magnetic particle inspection is used on a variety of project forms, such as: castings, forgings or weldments. The test method is fast and relatively easy to apply and is used in industries such as structural steel fabrication, automotive, petrochemical and power generation.

113_1334.JPGUltrasonic (UT) uses high frequency sound energy to conduct examinations and take measurements. This test method can be used for flaw detection in welded components, plates, castings and forgings as well as determining the thickness of various components. Ultrasonic inspection is highly portable and only requires access to one side of the object being examined.

Visual (VT) CWI, ICC and API inspectors are available to perform visual inspections to a variety of codes and standards. In addition, AET can administer welding procedure and performance qualification tests. Our personnel are also capable of performing fire proofing testing, protective coating verification and bolt testing. AET routinely performs direct and remote visual inspections, as well as positive material identification (PMI) tests.
