JOB DESCRIPTION

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Assist and follow the direction of engineers and scientists to complete projects. Work assignments may include information gathering, field monitoring, sample collection, data management, proposal and report preparation, limited project management, drafting, computer related activities such as spreadsheets and word processing.

PRINCIPAL AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

Perform air emissions stack testing and FTIR spectroscopy in accordance with established methodologies and protocols.

Assist project management in multi-disciplinary projects.

Assist project managers with data collection activities, environmental surveys, information analysis and preparation of reports and proposals.

Conduct sampling of air, soil, ground water, surface water, wastes and other environmental media in accordance with established/specified protocols.

Document and maintain project files and job status.

Assist in preparation of training manuals and QA procedures.

Develop and maintain business contacts.

Assist in company marketing functions.

Assist in training and oversight of less experienced scientists and technicians.

Prepare site plans and drawings.

Assist in organizing and analyzing environmental data using computer spreadsheet, database programs, and manual methods.

Maintain records on equipment (appraisals, calibrations, etc.) and order supplies as needed.

Perform other duties as required to meet department and company goals.

Maintain an acceptable driving record.

Follow all safety rules and procedures.

MAIN REQUIREMENTS TO CANDIDATE
 
 
SKILL AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of environmental sampling protocols.

Ability to organize work.

Ability to work at heights.

Ability to identify and adapt procedures to fit field conditions.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Ability to operate, trouble-shoot and maintain electronic instruments and mechanical equipment.

Proficient use of personal computer software, i.e. word processing, spreadsheet, etc.

Ability to work as part of a project team.

Ability to work safely at environmental remediation, industrial and construction sites.

Physical ability to wear a respirator and successfully complete OSHA 40 hour training and routinely lift up to 40 pounds.

SECONDARY REQUIREMENTS TO CANDIDATE

Ability to perform field work including, but not limited to, collecting samples, operating field instruments, following procedures, arranging logistics for field activities and documentation of field and data collection activities.

Awareness and attention to safety.

Properly use and maintain company vehicles, instruments and equipment.

Personal vehicle required for company use.

Out of town travel.

CHALLENGE:

Complete assignments on time and within time allotted.

Coordinate with other staff of the company with the ultimate goal of increasing efficiency, productivity and communication.

Conduct all activities in a safe manner.

Responsible for seeking projects, tasks, and work from other department personnel to maintain productivity and efficiency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of a 2 year vo-tech or college program in a field related to science, engineering or environmental issues and at least five years environmental or geotechnical field experience, or; Completion of a 4 year technical degree in science, engineering or environmental related field and 3 years environmental field experience.

Completion of 40 hour OSHA Hazardous Waste Site Safety Training.
