PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
Perform field observations /evaluation, prepare proposals/reports, provide geotechnical recommendations, and manage project testing for assigned jobs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. Civil Engineering with geotechnical emphasis (M.S. preferred)
- Five to ten years applicable geotechnical experience; specifically with slope stability/retaining walls, large mining and energy clients (rock blasting/vibration management projects also preferred).
- Must have and maintain Professional Engineer registration in MN (WI & ND also preferred)
PRINCIPAL AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Project Management
- Prepare project specific proposals
- Review and negotiate contracts
- Establish project budgets
- Oversee and maintain client, project team, and in-house communication
- Coordinate engineers and technicians in performance of field work
- Maintain orderly project file and job status reports
- Prepare timely invoices and maintain acceptable work-in-progress
- Pursue aged accounts
Field Work
- Perform engineering observations/judgments of geotechnical activities, including those jobs with higher degree of difficulty
- Perform limited amounts of special inspection on an as-needed basis
- Coordinate technicians to perform field tests
Report Preparation and Related Duties
- Establish and meet quality requirements
- Prepare formal engineering reports
- Review formal engineering reports
- Review reports of field and laboratory tests
- Prepare information sheets to assist coordination of technicians
- Prepare other project-related memos and documentation
- Render professional advice to clients
Marketing
- Maintain existing clients and business relationships
- Ability to promote specialty geotechnical services
-Ability to develop regional client base
- Pursue specific project leads
- Aid in company marketing functions
- Become involved in engineering, testing, or other societies and functions
Proposal Preparation
- Communicate with clients to determine their project needs
- Develop engineering and testing programs for projects
- Establish project budgets and determine appropriate unit rates
- Prepare and present proposals
Miscellaneous
- Assist in training of less experienced engineers and technicians in routine field work, documentation and report preparation
- Aid department manager in developing and implementing in-house training and quality programs
- Perform other job duties not listed, as required, to meet department and company needs
-Travel expected (mostly local/regional).
